2-3 does needed Dublin
Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum. Just bought a large cage that will hold up to 6 rats, but wanted to start from 2 or 3 and see how it goes:) If you know any breeders in Dublin or you have young females for adoption/re-homing please let me know. Going to the pet shop is the last resort for me:(

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Accidental litter definitely better than any breeder you'll find in Dublin. We're currently the only NFRS registered breeder in Ireland, and the only breeder using lines from good, well known backgrounds and working towards a set goal of health and longevity. We're also in Cork - so not much help if you can't/are not willing to travel. We home to all over the country, but we do expect first timers to come to us to meet the rats

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Thanks Bekkles, I contacted the guy from donedeal, the ratties advertised are gone but they have new litter that will be ready in approx 3 weeks so I "booked" my does and meantime will have the cage ready, I'm so excited, sadly i'm the only person in my environment (home, work) who likes pet rats and might be hard to find somebody to feed them when I'm away. But bought special cage with rotatable feeder so that you don't have to open the cage to feed them so hopefully my flatmates will warm up to them. That's why I was so surprised there actually is a rat forum in Ireland, cause anyone I'm telling about getting rats reacts with disgust and always ask why not hamsters or rabbits. Ratties must be the most unappreciated pets ever:(
So Zoundz, good job on the forum, I actually did see your website "bongo furry rattery", but cork is slightly to far to travel without the car. And idea of getting bus or train with rats, not sure.
I was trying to register on that forum for last 2 weeks or so, but if u go to http://irishrat.proboards.com/ it says sign ups are disabled at this forum. It only worked when I used link provided on your website.
Thanks guys one again and hopefully will post pics of my baby rats soon..

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
My mum was a bit stand off-ish at first with the ratties but now she loves a wee rattie cuddle. I am sure your flat mates will fall in love with them too! 'Cuz they really are the best we pets ever.
Im glad I could help

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Be very wary of buying from that sort of 'breeder' - you never know what sort of problems you'll be buying into - as none of the breeders here except us actually keep track of lineage and pay note to the genetics and the long term health and longevity and temperament. Most of the people breeding rats and selling them through done-deal are just not great at all and the rats are usually pretty poorly socialised, fed and badly bred.

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Hi Bekkles,
Fortunately for myself, the female rat we suspected might also be pregnant isn't showing any more signs (poor Buffy has just put on a bit of weight and been building nests as a hobby, it seems!) and though I do tend to get in over my head with rescues from time to time, I wouldn't be positive that I'll have any more girls soon. Are you the one I recommended Bongo Fury to? Either way, I've decided against homing two of my females to one of the people who asked, as they showed me the cage they were planning on keeping them in and when I said it wasn't big enough, they just insisted they couldn't afford bigger. So no babies for them.
If you're still interested, I could offer you two or three females (I still haven't accurately sexed them all yet) from the litter when they're weaned and ready to leave their mom. They'll still need about three weeks or so before they can go, but I'll gladly keep them for you. As long as it's a good home they go to, I'm not fussed about money or anything.

I will be more than happy to take 2 does from you if you are based in Dublin. The cage I bought will hold 6 rats so I might take 1 or 2 more later on..

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
I really need some does around the same age as my rattie. At the least about 18 months old. Shes 23 months and im sure some wee young in's would aggravate her. It would be great if someone could help. Or if anyone has some rescues that need re-homing x
Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Let me put it this way; anybody who takes the time to join the Irish Rat Club has clearly no intention of feeding my babes to snakes. If anyone here wants babies, you skip to the top of the list. Babies have a little bit of hair today, they're VERY cute.

No Babs, I definitely didnt spend E140.00 for the cage and some more for accessories to feed snakes with them But I was wondering, is that what happens to all rats in a pet shop? It just makes me want to rescue them all..

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Sorry, bekkles! I can offer you some baby does but they wouldn't suit what you're looking for. I've got one rescue male that may need to be rehomed (I've kind of fallen in love with him so I'm gonna have to see!) but no females and aside from this ad on donedeal I haven't seen any older females going for rehoming in a while. Sorry
Well Lanka, if you'd like I can keep you some babies. Are you in Dublin? If you are you can swing by any time and pick which ones you want (I've quite obsessively begun to notice every single difference in each baby). My mam also knits hammocks and all sorts to go with them, so anyone who takes baby rats is getting hand knitted rope hammocks to go with them!

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
I really wish I could take on some babies! But I will hopefully be heading to uni at the end of this year and may not be able to care for the ratties, unless I manage to get a flat with friends or something. Bah!
Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Only thing I can say is I had a similar problem to you, when one of my pair of does (Stella) died at 17 months, Blanche was the same age and very lonely. I bought Dorothy a week later. Dorothy was 8 months old. Dorothy is definitely more hyper than Blanche, but they seem to be getting on really well despite the fact that there is 10 months of an age difference.

I am in Dublin indeed, city center actually,no car, so just public transport. Just tell me whenever they are ready and I steal two from you before you have a chance to fall in love with them..

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Great! I'll let you know when they're good to go. They're 9 days old today, so a bit of a wait. But they're so adorable. You're too late already, I'm in love with all of them! It'll be great to have at least a couple go to people on here so I can see how they develop.

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Hi babs,
Since it has been nearly 3 weeks now I was wondering how the ratties are doing and when would they be available to take home..?I cant stand looking at the empty cage, hammocks and all the xtras are installed there, food and bedding bought weeks ago, keep watching videos on you tube and I'm so close from going to a pet shop..but as I said,it's a last resort, would prefer well bred ones, from good home please let me know, thank you..

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Ohh yeah, sorry about that! I've just had so many people calling and texting about them I kind of lost track! You wanted two or three, did you say? Would you mind maybe taking three? Because I have an uneven amount of girlies and I refuse to home them alone, but I'm also trying not to get anymore girls because after the escaping trouble I had with Buffy I'd prefer to stick exclusively with bucks in future.
On Friday the kittens will be four weeks old, and I think I might be better waiting until they're five weeks. If in the meantime you'd like to come over and see them, maybe pick the ones you'd like that's absolutely no problem, I can understand your impatience waiting for them! Really sorry about that, but you can come by ANY time to see them and choose. Just so you have confirmation that they're definitely here for you.

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Oh, and just to let you know, as much as I'd love to tell you that they're well bred, I honestly can't! There's no reason that they won't make great pets anyway, but I just don't know enough about their parents background to say that they definitely won't have certain health problems etc when they get older. As is stands, the only real breeder in Ireland is Laura, AKA Zoundz on here. I'm happy to give you the three females anyway, but I just wouldn't really feel right without letting you know that I'm not 100% on their backgrounds. That said, they've still been handled pretty much since birth, so I would imagine they'll still be friendlier than your pet store rat.

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Kittens should really be at least 6 weeks before being homed. Hope they all get lovely homes! It sounds like you've made a wise decision to only keep one gender in the future (something i'm also working towards) and your honesty is something to be admired.

Re: 2-3 does needed Dublin
Hi Babs, that's fine,I was thinking 2-3 does anyway so I can take 3. Would be helpful if I had 3 hands and 3 shoulders to handle them easily but will work sth out:) Text me (0872050193) your address and phone no and we can arrange the visit. even if they not ready just eat maybe they will remember my smell or sth so I wouldnt be total stranger to them when I take them later. Thanks a mill
