Re: is there an NI rescue for rats?
Yeah
I have thought of trying to organise one in the future, (firstly when i'm back in NI in a few months) when I have a bigger house and a good job, but that's probably some time off yet.
As an alternative I do home rats needing homes via the likes of gumtree, and my vet was also informed that should any be handed in I could help out with homing, so that's another idea. Gumtree isn't everyone's cup of tea, because people usually want some sort of money. But that doesn't bother me since it's usually not very much and they normally come with a cage/bedding or other similar things that I can use or sell.
Other than that, there are sometimes rats needing homes in the adoption centres in pet shops, but again, these often come with a small adoption fee (not quite the same as buying one) and may be seen to be supporting the pet trade, which is usually frowned upon in the rat fancy.

Re: is there an NI rescue for rats?
The pets at home adoption centres do put money back into pets at home, which makes me very angry, so I would never support them.
We did have a rescue in NI, Ashleanne, but she stopped a couple of years ago there's no dedicated rescues in the Republic either - but some end up with us, or with others on here and we all do our best to help them out
xx

Hmmm, lots of food for thought there.
I Might give it a go at some point in the near future (after I move). It is something that needs to be set up by someone... I've seen far too many in p@h adoptions etc. and there is no way they can be helping the ratties be good, rounded pets with understanding owners
