New member here!
Hi all!
My name's Morgan and I've only been living in Ireland for about 3 years now. I'm originally from New York. I'm a lecturer at Griffith College Cork and like to paint and write comics. I currently have a horror story coming out on Halloween in the new Cork Comic collection book.
I'm here to learn about rats as much as I can. I'm currently looking into getting two of my own. I've always wanted a rat since I was little (my cousin had one and we would play with her all the time) but my own mother never let me have one.
I've been travelling quite a bit for the past 6 years, so I never had the opportunity to own a pet, but now that I'm somewhat settled, I've been looking into it. I'm a huge dog person. I love dogs more than anything, but sadly, I don't plan on staying in Ireland for more than another 3 or so years. I'm not sure if I will leave or not, but I know for certain that I'm not going to stay here forever. Getting a dog would be a good 10-20 year investment of time and money that I do not currently have. Taking a dog with me as I move to another country would be very cruel.
But then it hit me - I've always wanted a rat and now I can finally get one myself! They're sociable, trainable, adorable, and they are more of a 2-3 year investment of my time.
And not intending to make this note go a bit dark, but I've always felt that animals were great for therapy for depression. My previous dogs have always helped me in he worst of times. I want something to take care of and look after, I want something new to learn about. I want to keep some diversity in my life.
So here I am! and I hope I get to know you all as well.
Cheers!

Hi ! I got my two ratties for the very same reasons as you and after a year I think it is one of the best decisions I made (although they keep me busy when I would just like to die in my bed haha) ! Rats are trully amazing and lovable !
And if you are interested in training yours, let me know and I would love to have a chat with you about it !!
Hope to see you soon
