Rivendell James T Kirk - 2010-02-19 - 2011-11-30

I wish I didn't have to write this so soon, but I had to say goodbye to Kirk today. 
Kirk and his brothers were my first Rivendell rats and I soon found out just what I was letting myself in for. He was very intelligent and very mischievous. Every time I thought I'd rat-proofed my room he managed to find a way to get to where he wasn't supposed to be.
Kirk could be very in-your-face, but he could also be very affectionate and soon became Mum's "teddy bear" rat and spent every evening snuggled in her lap, bruxing his head off.
A few days ago I noticed a small lump on Kirk's chin. The next day it was larger so I took him to the vet with a suspected blocked salivary gland and came home with antibiotics. By yesterday the lump had grown even larger so he went back to the vets so they could see what was going on. Unfortunately it turned out to be an abscess on top of a tumour that couldn't be safely removed so we decided it was kinder to let him go.

Ah im sorry to hear that he sounds like a brilliant little man.Your pictures of him are gorgeous and really show bags of personality He looks like he packed a lot into his time here

So sorry Lew about your loss of Kirk. Your photos of him really show him at his best, he must have been a wonderful friend and companion to you. Beautiful photos, I love the one with him yawning, a wonderful tribute to Kirk, Steve
