Wanted: Adult Female Rat

So I notice I'm not the only one, but my girl Myst passed away and her sister Shale needs a friend. She's 15 months old, so the closer to that age the better. I would love to get some kittens, but I have serious allergies that have been getting progressively worse and I have to wind it all down and stop keeping rats eventually. Saying that, I'll only give up Shale if I absolutely have to, and if I do so, they'll be going back to Zoundz.

Shale is quiet and laid back and I *think* she'll be easy enough to introduce to a new girl.

So let me know if you hear anything, I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Got through. My husband just gave her a ring and the rats been rehomed...

bumping this thread. We're still looking and are on the cusp of asking the horrible pet shop on the quays in dublin if they have any females past breeding age that we could 'rescue' from them Went in there recently and it used to be sort of decent (though selling animals from at pet shop at all is a black mark for me). Looks like they have loads of tiny breeding boxes set up in the corner with rats in them. There's no way there's enough demand for them to home all those poor, bored little kits. The cages are tiny and there's no toys, but at least they were clean... (sigh). Very annoyed

It's tough, but if it were me I think I'd rather rehome her rather than get pet shops rats for her company, especially considering you're not aiming to keep rats after her. You'll only have to rehome the next rat/s, or get more company for it/them.
It's really sad, but maybe that is something you could consider.
Otherwise, I'd keep looking out for older rats on gumtree/donedeal etc and on local ads in petshops and on this forum.
Perhaps Zoundz or someone else could let you 'borrow' one or two older 'does' for the rest of her life.

I'd be happy to take any rats back Siobhan I know that's the very last option, as it should be, but the option is there. I don't think I have any older does I can lend you either Bella's too old if you get me, she's over two and has a lump... most of my other girls are either too old and not fit enough for the journey, or just at the wrong age - either grumpy out of their own groups and not likely to give you an easy time with intros, or breeding age and I need to keep them. will have a think if there's anything more I can offer.

ETA - I now find that the three girls we took back last week are still up for homing, so that's an option for you if you like? but they are 3 in number and obviously two of them are only 15 months old.

Actually 15 months is perfect and we'd be happy to take the three. . Shale's only about 17, so that's very close. If she were much older, I think I would just hold onto her or retire her somewhere. It's because she's still young that we're looking to get a few more for company. We're not looking to give rats up straight off, just phase them out.

I'm not sure when we can get to Cork though. I'll have to talk to my husband and see what we can arrange...
