Feeling sad ):
Albie's not doing so good now
Some of you might have read about his front paw and how I've moved him into the retirement cage. Today he's no better, and actually seems to be using his paw less. This morning he seemed brighter but tonight he seems pretty awful again, so I guess a lot of it has to do with him being tired. He's less into cuddling and just really wants to sleep and be on his own, which isn't really like him. I think his appetite is also a little off, but probably not much changed. I don't really know why I'm typing this, but I guess some of you know how it is when no one else you know personally like rats (apart from my OH, of course).
So, I'm just worried I'm going to have to make a tough decision sometime soon, especially if his front paw doesn't get better 'cause he can barely get about at all today.

Poor guy I don't mean to upset you further, but I expect he'll take that decision out of your hands *HUG* I'm sure he knows what a good life he has had with you and how much he is loved. It sounds like he loves you just as much back. Thinking of you.

Re: Feeling sad ):
Thanks guys. Means a lot that people are so nice here.
This morning he didn't get out of bed for breakfast. I was pretty worried so I lifted him out and set him by the bowl. He wasn't at all interested in the food (which Chandler was quickly scoffing) and just dragged himself back to bed (after a few steps I just lifted him and put him back in). Most of them don't get out of bed during the day when I go in (lazy buggers), but he does usually get up and come out for his food.

Tonight he's eaten a little. He seems happy enough, but he really is struggling to get around. Heartbreaking.

Re: Feeling sad ):
Hey guys, just thought i'd keep yas all updated on Albie since you've been so supportive.
He seems a good bit brighter today. I got him more malt paste 'cause he seems a bit off his food and he's scoffed loads of it tonight, plus some nice chicken applaws. yum.
I made another post about our holiday away up north this weekend, so hopefully he has a good time.
I'm trying my best to just enjoy him while he's still here and not be sad about it all. So thanks for all your thoughts guys.

So sorry Albie is having a hard time. I know hes an older rat but still rats aren't with us as long as they should be. Thoughts with you and Albie, hoping things improve.

Thanks Gillian.
Just thought I would keep yas all updated on Al.
He's actually been doing a lot better the past few days. We think moving into the retirement cage (with less competition for food, no pressure to climb, rest, extra food, etc) and a holiday have done him good. He seems a good bit happier. His front paw hasn't gotten any worse, and he seems to be getting about, though it's a bit of a struggle. Overall, good.
