Music?
I guess its behavior so i'll add it here. My boyfriend got me 5.1 surround sound for my pc for gaming and listening to music in general. I was wondering do rats like music or does it bother them? The reason i ask is today i was playing alot of orchestral stuff to chill too and draw and Renee and Mocha were on the second floor of the cage leaning on the side of the cage closest to my room and snuggled together, not sleeping but just, sitting there together, when i went over they didnt move just chilled when i petted them and talked to them, i wondered if they really liked my music or something. I have never heard of it before so i thought i'd ask if its alright for them x3 (its not loud at all i like it nice and quiet but the surround made it very ambient) I love the look on there faces it was all narrow eyed and dreamy

Re: Music?
They did an experiment before on either rats or mice (can't remember but I think it was mice). They put mice in a maze and played them certain types of music and judged their response ... classical music made them finish the maze the quickest and rock/metal music made them reluctant to move and tremble.
I've heard it's really good to play them classical music! They do it alot in horse yards to keep the horses chilled and calm and they do say it boosts a childs intelligence if they listen to it...so it must be good! I'd keep on playing it...it does sound like they enjoy it!

Re: Music?
It obviously doesn't bother them in an adverse way, so keep it up! I don't know if there would be any benefits or not, but it can't hurt as long as it's not upsetting them
I used to read children's stories to my lot... some of them lived for it, and would be waiting in the same spots in the cages every night. Should start again, though I've not done it since we had a rat space with no sofa...

I would think that,as long as it isn't loud it should be fine.I'm fairly sure classical music,or anything equally chilled is soothing for most animals mine have always enjoyed a bit of Damien Rice on the way to the vet
