Bongo Fury Don Van Vliet :*(

Where to begin... so soon after losing lovely Babs, we have to say goodbye to two very very special rats :*( firstly Don (then Daffy).

Don was a fab rat, Christy's boy really. When his lad Toshio was alone, we sent baby Don to live with him for company. Christy had Don for a good while, and then when Toshio passed away, Don came back to us. He was lifelong friends with Ori, Wart, Count and Rebel - and they got on so well - it was lovely to have such a big group of daft boys :*) Don of course was boss.

The other day I noticed he was looking strange, and I was rather worried. Got him out of the cage, thinking he'd had a stroke or a PT. We kept him warm and hydrated, tried treating him for a stroke, and he seemed to improve. Then a few days later, went back down hill. This happened a few times, and last night he seemed to crash quite badly. Amongst all this he'd sort of forgotten who we were, and had become quite senile and sort of bitey - because I think he was scared. Today I decided he'd had enough, and took him in to say goodbye. It was very sad, but in some ways lovely to see him relax again properly :*(

But I don't want to think about his miserable ending... I want to celebrate his wonderful life... which is why I bought a celebration cake and took it to Grace and Eoghan's tonight to share and remember him and Dafs with. (And I've just reaslised... Don(ald) and Daffy! <3!!) He wasa really super boy :*) and deserved a lovely memory.

Don was one of our cuddliest boys... he came to PR events with us, was one of the first rats we got out to dump on visitors, was generally a cuddly clown. Everyone knew him - everyone who'd been here would recognise him I'd say... and for that I will always think fondly of him. He was just one of those special lads. I don't quite know what I'll do without him here to say hi to everyone :*(

Run free my lovely lad... when I found you the other day I'd been watching Donnie Darko - another thing that reminds me of you (it's all in the name!) - and this song seemed perfect... I chose it a while ago to be honest :*( I just hoped I wouldn't be using it anytime soon.
