Bath time for ratties and hammys!
Decided to give the rats and hamsters a bath, been months since last time Blanche was bathed so needed!!!
Blanche having her bubble bath!
Poor Blanche! But at least she's now fluffy and spotless!
Dorothy loved her first ever bath! Unlike Blanche, she washed herself!
'We're done now!'
There's something I like about this one!
The hamsters Sue and Peggy having their bath! They enjoyed their wee swim!

Those are just gorgeous!
Do you mind if I ask where you got Blanche? She's such beautiful colours, I've been keeping an eye out for rats with those markings but I never see any. They're both absolutely beautiful

Aww - they're lovely
Blanche is a Siamese I reckon (I thought himalayan before, but now I'm thinking siamese). There are many good breeders of them in the UK, and none in Ireland.

I got Blanche (and her sister Stella who has since passed away) as a pair from Pets at Home. I just went looking for rats as I'd always wanted to keep them, and they said they had 2 dumbos in recently which had just arrived and were still out the back in quarantine. I went to see them and decided they were coming home with me! I know petshop rats aren't advised tho. Stella passed away at only 17 months due to cancer (vet found a lump, but she suffered from respiratory problems too so it's unclear as to what killed her) And Blanche is currently on medication due to respiratory problems.
But still, I can't say I regret it as Stella was a darling, and Blanche is my baby. I'm smitten with dumbos because of them!

Love the photo of Dorothy washing herself. It made me laugh!! and the to hammies swimming, wonderful. I had hamsters when I was a young fella, never thought of giving them a bath. They must have all come up lovely and fluffy, Steve

Yes that one with their backs turned is wonderful - it could be a poster! I'm amazed how much they seem to enjoy it. I've never bathed any of my rats because I assumed they'd find it so traumatic it would be unjustifiable, but your's seem to be having a whale of a time maybe I'll see one day.

Re: Bath time for ratties and hammys!
Hi Katherine,
I just fill a shallow bath with luke warm water mixed with small animal shampoo and pop them in. There's always a slightly deeper end where the plug is and a shallow end on the other side so they can go for a swim or just stand in the water, they like the choice!
I'll let them bath themselves and Dorothy did a great job, but I needed to bath Blanche as she wouldn't completely dip herself and refused to wash! lol. Then they have a wee towel dry in front of the fire, and spend the next hour grooming! I think it's good for them but yeah I don't do it very often as it's not necessary but they are both so fluffy and clean now and smell of soap!

It looks like they'd have fun if they liked it. I've done a paddling pool for them so I might give Ishy and Mawie a dip if I'm at a loss for things to do next weekend. Will let you know how it goes if I do
