Advice :D
Does anyone have any advice/experience on owning rats and going to university? presuming you had to live away from home x
Re: Advice :D
Yep - been there done that! Owned them from my second year and it's not something I'd really recommend... it costs a fair bit, and money is always tight in uni. It's hard to find somewhere to live with them too. It also is very distracting!

I have a kind of similar problem, but luckily my mam has agreed to feed and look after the ratties in my absence provided I'm home whenever I can be and at least at the weekends. I'm hoping to eventually take my rats with me, but this arrangement is to do me until then. What are you gonna be studying? I'm hoping that doing the practical side in the vet assistant course I'm doing might count as an excuse to occasionally come to class with a rat in my hood, lol!

I'm final year now & as laura said it is very hard financially, mine don't get new toys anymore. It's also hard time-wise sometimes & the poor ratties often don't get as much attention as they deserve. I'd also make sure your tennant allows pets & i'd arrange a pet contract with them.

Re: Advice :D
I chose to wait myself untill i had graduated,i just wouldnt have been able to guarantee having spare money when needed,if id be living in the same place from year to year and who id end up living with coz im over protective of my ratties and wouldnt want randomers being brought back to the house and doing anything stupid like leaving them out when i wasnt there or anything. And also i really enjoyed being able to breeze in and out as i pleased, with no one to answer to and obv wouldnt do that with a pet..Worth the wait

But with my lone rattie, I really need to find her a wee friend around the same age (18-20 months)
Shes starting to miss her sister now. she was grooming my hand earlier like never before! lol
