About 2 weeks ago gary's eye was very porphy looking, so I kept an eye on him, about two days later his face was very swollen. It didn't swell near his eye and was just above his upper jaw. I took him to the vet and she suspected it might have something to do with his teeth but they were fine and he has no difficulty eating, she lanced the abscessand alot of puss came out. He was put on 0.5ml of Baytrill for 7 days, I was told he would bleed a little afterwards. It looked to be healing a couple of days ago but the cut seems to bemore open looking and seems to have gotten larger, probably due to cleaning. I have been cleaning the wound with cotton buds and warm water and a miniscule amount of Savlon. He seems to be a bit uncomfortable but afraid if I bring him back in she'll put him under anaesthetic to stitch him. What do I do?

She shouldn't stitch him anyway, as that's never good for abscesses, they need to be left open to heal from the inside out. Can you get a photo? Location means something in facial abscesses.

Get a syringe and flush it with saline twice a day... try and pressure wash it with it, and keep pulling the scab off. After 3 days of this Forz's was ready to heal and didn't even leave a scar

I think he's doing a good job at pulling the scab off himself. I had no idea it will heal from the inside out Laura. That's a big relief. will try and get a picure when I can get near my own computer.

She's quiet. She was stressed when I passed her to vet and she peed all over place. Almost like she understood something as up as she is happy to go to anyone normally without fear. It was like she knew he might hurt her in some way, and she squeaked when injected, poor wee woman. So now shes home shes gone straight to her bed with her sister and they're curled up together sleeping. Will check on her lump later on tonight when she wakes for some food.

Looks quite good - hard to see from here whether that yellow centre of the wound is pus or just healthy flesh :/ try and keep it clean from within.

It looks likes healthy skin. I was worried because the wound is so deep and Gary is quite aware of this and keeps burying his head in my sleeve when he's out.. He's still very much the same little Gary apart from this though so i'm very much relieved
