Advice on giving baytril
Just a question about baytril. I asked for baytril for my rat Betty as she is walking with a head tilt so I'm suspecting she might have an ear infection. The vet of course wants me to put the baytril into water which to me would be completely useless especially as she shares her cage with her 3 sisters so they'd all be taking the baytil, and seperating her from the other 3 would be stress inducing.
I asked could I syringe the baytril into her mouth and the vet said it was far too toxic to be syringed into her mouth. Any ideas on what I should do?

What baytril solution is it? It shouldn't be toxic to syringe into the mouth! But it's not nice.

with a small square of buttered bread. Dip the butty side in sugar and soak the baytril into it - never fails for mine. As for it being toxic it's a bit worrying - baytril licensed for small animals isn't toxic orally, which means either the vet doesn't know what they're on about or is giving you something that's not correct for her.
Anywho hope she's better soon.

With Jack needing medication (Galastop and prednisone, both not tasting very nice) I found the perfect solution
I got some Harrison's bird food Juvenile formula. The vet gives it to them as a post-op treat to gain strength and rats love it. I mix the medicine in and they happily lick a spoonful laced with yukkie medicine.

If people have tips for giving medicine it would be great if you could add them to the thread I linked earlier please.
