rat sitter needed Empty rat sitter needed

Post by redrach Wed Jan 25, 2012 3:18 am

Hey guys,
So nothing's set in stone and this may not happen, i'd just like to check if there'd be anyone available before I agree to anything.
The OH is away working in Spain atm and we've been asked to go over 'for a few months' during summer. It's probably going to be about 2 months and i'm absolutely gutted to have to leave my babies D:
So, it looks like i'll probably need a rat sitter for June, & July. I have 4 boys and 4 girls. I'd prefer them to all go to the same place, but if not definately the boys need to go together and the girls together. I can provide a furet plus cage with one gender (probably girls) and a rabbit cage (probably for the boys 'cause the bar spacing is too wee for the girls). I'd also provide all food and bedding (or £ for these) and could discuss a small amount as payment.
I'll travel pretty much anywhere in NI and as far south as Dublin.

How are you traveling? I believe petpassport scheme means you can take them with you if that's a feasibility? Smile

Funnily enough Laura, Luke mentioned taking them & driving JUST after I posted this.
How does petpassport work? Do I have to apply, or pay anything?
I'd be worried it would be an awfully long drive for them ):

I've had a quick look, apparently you don't need a petpassport for rodents (only cats, dogs & ferrets because they can get rabies)
Did you have to have passports to bring them from uk to ireland?

You may need vet certificates saying that they are healthy - that's basically all they need Smile What you need to do is speak to Spanish equivalent of DEFRA, and UK DEFRA (Not sure how it is in NI), and find out exactly what you are able to do. As far as I'm aware, going from NI to Spain, you should be able to transport them with just vet certs, and try and get stuff from DEFRA in writing.

there's an add on donedeal, someone advertising their petsitting service, but it looks like it's pretty expensive, though it might be worth a look Smile here's the link - http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/petservices/2638059

Pfft - that is very expensive! As I've said, I'm more than happy to do it for you if you're not taking them, it's the cost of petrol from you to here of course, but we don't charge anything Smile

About traveling abroud, I was driving with my girls from Ireland to Poland and return. Only what I needed was health certificate 7 days before travel and thats it. There is no regulations about so small animal. If u want I can try to find what I have on this certificate?

Did you get this sorted? If you do decide to leave them here then I'll take them, I'm probably closest too! Can't believe someone would charge that amount of money for pet sitting! I wouldn't ask you for any money if you provide what they need.

Can only do it if we decide to renew our lease though, it ends in the Summer. If we don't, that could make things tricky but I'll let you know. By the sounds of things you're probably going to take them with you anyway!
